Did you watch the Kentucky Derby? Were you there? Maximum Security was clearly winning, until he didn't.
How many times in each of our lives have we been winning, but then we veered off course? We were rolling along with the wind at our back, and for no apparent reason, we lost focus. We got out of our lane and lost momentum. Many times we are winning the morning, the day or even this crazy game called life when we lose our way. We veer off course. We take our eyes off the finish line. It happens all the time, just not in front of 100,000 people live and several million watching. We do it often in our daily walk.
Sometimes, we get back on track quickly. Other times it takes much longer and is more costly. While Maximum Security paid a heavy price and on a public stage, our own personal race often feels just as important.
May we all learn from the 145th running of the most exciting two minutes in sports. Let's keep our eyes on the finish line. Let's stay focused on our own race, and stay in our lane. Don't veer off course, and the victory could be in reach.
